The
plant, located in Granby, Quebec, was opened in 1979 by
Alcan Cable to produce and develop connection accessories
for energy network distribution and transport cables. In
order to ensure sustained growth, production was diversified
during the 1980s. This made the company less vulnerable
to the seasonal nature of production in the energy sector.
Industries SpectAL inc. acquired
all the facilities and activities in September 1995. Since
this pivotal date, every effort has been made to guarantee
that the SME will have healthy and long-lasting development.
In 1996, SpectAL’s activities began to develop around
two specific divisions: machining subcontracting and shoolbus
windows.
In 1999, Industries SpectAL inc.
sold off the property involved with connection accessories
for network cables and invested more than $500,000 in the
windows division, enabling it to expand its market to windows
for recreational and utility vehicles.
The main plant has an area of 35,000 square feet (about
3,100 square metres) and contains all stages of manufacturing
and assembly of parts of all types.
A concern with the current environmental constraints is
reflected in SpectAL’s methods of recycling and reusing
scrap produced in manufacturing. The proximity of markets
and of supply sources is also an important factor in the
company’s success.
Industries SpectAL inc. also has
a maintenance workshop containing all the equipment required
for the manufacture and maintenance of the tools and machines
required to make its products. Highly skilled staff working
24 hours a day means that customers do not have to worry
about delivery delays in case of equipment breakage.
Of course, to keep up with the competition, our facilities
must evolve constantly. Purchases of state-of-the-art equipment
and constant modernization of our working tools help to
maintain our competitive edge and the level of service and
quality that our customers have the right to expect. We
have even designed and manufactured dedicated equipment
to enable us to reach these objectives.
